WRITING

An idea has to start in your head and then you either write it down or discuss it with a partner. We basically do both. Some of our stories are written almost completely by one person, others have been developed by having a scheduled brainstorm about it. But with every story, sooner or later it is talked about between the two.

In case of our current story, a long one containing eight volumes, we started with an idea, talked about it, wrote down a summary and divided that into eight parts, each to be treated and fine tuned separately. Even when we started working on the first 2 volumes, not having created the details for the rest yet, we did know where we were heading. You can't start the drawing until you know what your story is about and how it's going to end.

Now how to write a good story is a tricky one and if you aren't sure you have a feel for it, read books about, take a writing class or even let someone else do the writing. Not every comic artist knows how to write and it isn't unusual to have a team with one writer and one artist. Some artists even hook up with a different writer for each story. That the two of us do both the writing and drawing is kind of unusual, but it works for us.
